Item Community participation in managing secondary school academic performance: A case of selected secondary schools in Kilosa district council(Mzumbe University, 2019) Wanjara, ShukuraniThis study was about community participation in managing secondary schools academic performance. The study was carried out at Kilosa District council. The researcher employed three objectives which were, to examine the extent of community in Secondary Schools academic performance, the second objective was to find out the approach of community participation towards managing Schools academic performance, and the third objective was to explore the factors which limit effective community participation in decision making and administration of Schools academic performance. A case study design was adopted whereas a sample of one hundred and forty three (156) respondents was selected through simple random sampling and purposive sampling. Questionnaires, interview and documentary review were employed for data collection. Quantitative data were analyses through SPSS programme version 20, then data were presented in table, frequency and percentage, while qualitative data were analysed through content analysis. The findings of the study reveal that community participation enabled parents and teachers to get involved and assist students to study hard through their efforts this led to increase academic performance in Secondary Schools. Also, community participation resulted for parents to organize themselves and contribute money and pay temporally teachers of science subjects due to scarcity of those teachers, this led to the increase of performance for science subjects. Meanwhile, the study reveal that, the approaches used by parents to participate in School development was through meetings, cost sharing, this encouraged them to discuss together and work as a team for their children achievements whereas they contributed money for laboratories constructions, classrooms as well as teachers for accommodation, all these contributed to the performance of students in terms of academic. The researcher also discovered some challenges that hinder effective participation such as: political interference, low level of education, poverty and top down decision. The researcher concluded that, employed community participation is pivotal to create harmonious academic performance through involvement of community members which led to the achievement in terms of academic performance to the students.Item Relationship between time management and academic performance for primary schools: The case study of Morogoro municipality,(Mzumbe University, 2013) Ngowo, Ally A.The research aimed to examine the relationship between time management and academic performance by studying time wasters, motivation, absenteeism rate and procrastination and understand how they affect primary schools academic performance. The research was a case study design covering Morogoro Municipality. A sample size of 70 respondents was obtained by using stratified, purposive and accidental techniques of which both primary and secondary data were collected by using interview, questionnaire and documentary review and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The data were collected from teachers, students and head teachers from selected primary schools, MMC Officers, and Parents. The results revealed that, presence of time wasters to the teachers and students, absentees and late comers for both teachers and students, the behavior of procrastinating school activities, ineffectiveness in supervision by education officers, teachers and parents, lack of adherence to schools’ rules and regulations and also lack of motivation especially to the teachers, have contributed to the poor teaching and learning performance for teachers and students respectively, in primary schools at MM. The study recommends, for example, the teachers should set their individual goals from school targets of which will help them focusing on achieving those goals so as schools targets; as for the students, it is important for them to be self-disciplined, also reallocation of teachers and students to the nearby schools from home to reduce absenteeism rate and late coming, The parents are also recommended to provide necessary school items for their children, dedicate their time to monitor children’s progress at school and their behavior after school hours, and communicate to the teachers for effective supervision. Moreover, for further study a comprehensive research should be conducted on other areas of the country so as to broaden the knowledge of the importance of time management in academic performance.
