dc.description.abstract | General objective of the study was to assess the role of police in handling child sexual abuse in Kibaha District. Thus, the study set specifically to identify the causes of child sexual abuse; examining the role of gender desk in minimizing and eradicating child sexual abuse; identify the challenges faced by Police Officers in handling child sexual abuse cases which has led to failure of the cases at the court as well as to identify the means that can be invested to overcome the challenges of managed child sexual abuse. Data were collected using questionnaires and documentations, and processed by using spreadsheet computer programme (Microsoft Excel).This research was purposely located to police officers, social workers as well as to medical practitioners within Kibaha District. The of 45 respondents, which includes police officers who deal with gender desks, social workers and health people were participated in this study. Those respondents were the one who provided in-depth information for the study in the respective areas of work. From the findings, 44.5 percent of the respondents argued that, this problem or a challenge is common. Delayed court proceedings is one of the challenges mentioned by the most of the respondents.No mechanism on place management or coordination among different role actors like government institutions pose a big challenge to the social workers and police officers and indicated by 55.6 percent of all respondents. Also, there were 53.3 percent of all respondents indicated that, children are commonly failed to testify in courts due to lack of evidence. Furthermore, 28.9 percent recommended that, correspondent and targeted group essentially have contact to right information of the case. On this basis, respondents suggested the need to address the delay of the child sexual abuse related cases, as indicated by 22.2 percent. The findings indicated to be in place a well trained and experienced social workers, magistrates, persecutors, health practitioners, investigators. The study used primary and secondary data to examine the role of police force in handling child sexual abuse. | |
