Item A strategy to promote research and consultancy assignments in the faculty: A case study of the Faculty of Science and Technology Mzumbe University, Tanzania(Managing Change at Universities, 2019) Sungau, Joseph JosephThe research and consultancy services profile of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Mzumbe University has been of concern. The profile has been of concern due to the poor performance the faculty has in researches and consultancy assignments. In that regard, the faculty found it is necessary to improve the faculty performance in terms of researches and consultancy assignments for the health of the faculty. Following that need, the process to intervene and redress this situation started after the Dean of the Faculty attended International Deans’ Course (IDC) - Africa phase I, which was conducted in Germany. This course exposed the Dean to faculty management approaches that can be used to manage the faculty performance. Following this training, the Dean found that it is important to identify strategies that can be used by the faculty to improve her performance in terms of researches and consultancy assignments. In this assignment of the redressing faculty performance in terms of researches and consultancy assignments, the Dean adapted the Project Action Plan approach to identify the strategies that could be used to improve faculty performance in terms of researches and consultancy assignments. In this approach, the Dean mobilized the faculty members to develop the strategy. In carrying this assignment, the Dean was assigned a mentor who is an IDC – Africa resource person. The mentor gained the Dean in this process of developing the strategy. The developed strategy was presented to the faculty meeting, IDC Africa phase II and III in order to get comments for improvement. Thereafter, the suggested comments were addressed accordingly. Therefore, this chapter presents a proposed strategy that can be used to redress faculty performance in terms researches and consultancy assignments. Specifically, the chapter presents objectives, strategic objectives, strategies, targets and measurable indicators that a faculty may concentrate with to improve her performance in terms of researches and consultancy assignments.Item Business Process Re-Engineering(IGI Global, 2019) Sungau, Joseph JosephIn today's business environment, business competition has increased due to market needs and advancement in technologies. Among the techniques discovered, business process re-engineering is the technique reported to improve business processes for enhanced organizational performance. Therefore, this chapter explains what business process re-engineering is and presents modeling methods for business process re-engineering.Item Business process re-engineering: a panacea for reducing operational cost in service organizations(Instituto Federal de Educaçã, 2015) Sungau, Joseph Joseph; Ndunguru, Philibert C.Organizations in today’s business environment struggle on how to reduce operation cost for generating reasonable profit. In order to reduce Operational Cost, service organizations have been working hard to identify techniques that facilitate business processes improvement. In so doing, the global literature indicates that service organizations adopt BPR technique as a panacea of reducing Operational Cost. Despite a documented potentiality of BPR technique, a mixed empirical results, findings and conclusions regarding the effect of BPR on Operational Cost have been reported. Therefore, this paper aimed at assessing and explaining effects of BPR on Operational Cost. The study used cross-sectional survey design to investigate the effect of BPR on Operational Cost. Intensive literature review enabled the construction of structural measurement model, formulation of testable hypotheses and operationalization of constructs. In order to test the model and hypotheses, data were collected from ninety-five (95) service organizations in Tanzania. Results of the study reveal that BPR and delivering speed have no direct effects on Operational Cost; they indirectly affect Operational Cost through the mediations of service quality. Therefore, BPR influences first both service quality and delivery speed in affecting Operational Cost of service organizations. It is now recommended that service organizations should use BPR as panacea of reducing Operational Cost.Item Business process re-engineering: the technique to improve delivering speed of service industry in Tanzania(Independent Journal of management & production, 2013) Sungau, Joseph Joseph; Ndunguru, Philibert C.; Kimeme, JosephProblem statement: Delivering speed is very critical in today’s business environment. In most cases, service organizations and customers are sensitive to time spent at delivering or receiving a service. Therefore, service organizations must change in order to meet this challenge. Overtime, service organizations have worked hard to identify techniques that enhance service delivering speed for improved performance. Business process re-engineering is one of such techniques that improves business processes; including delivering speed. However, despite documented advantages, most organizations are reluctant to adopt the technique. Purpose: The paper aims at determining the effect of business process re-engineering on delivering speed; enabling organizations to appreciate the performance improvement that is associated with the technique. Methodology: The study used cross-sectional survey design to investigate the effect of BPR on delivering speed. In order to undertake the study, intensive literature review was undertaken to operationalize the constructs and to formulate the hypothesis which was tested after the field work. In total ninety-five (95) service organizations participated in the study. Results: From the study, it is revealed that BPR significantly and positively improves delivering speed of service organizations. Conclusion: For improved delivering speed, service organizations should adopt BPR technique to improve business processes for provision of delighting services to customers.Item Determinants of job satisfaction at work place: Empirical evidence from Alliance one Tobacco Processing Industry in Morogoro-Tanzania(International Journal of Engineering Research & Technology (IJERT), 2015) Sungau, Joseph Joseph; Lyama, LenaSatisfying employees at job places is very importance for better organizational performance. Organizations have been working hard to influence employees to perform better. This study was aimed to identify factors that may affect employees’ job satisfaction for better organizational performance. The study used a case study survey design to collect data. In data analysis, the study used SEM where by a path model was used to analyse the data. In this study, it was found that job enrichment, job enlargement and job rotation are factors that influence employees’ job satisfaction. Other factors that influence employee job satisfaction are employees’ involvement in decision making and involvement of employees in quality management issues. Although BPR improves the efficiency of processes, it can hardly be applied in its own and thus it needs to be complemented with other concepts from other disciplines. Information technology (IT) tools are seen as accuracy and effective enabler of BPR approach in restructuring activities. This paper focuses on analyzing on how IT can be an enabler of BPR approach to restructuring processes in an organization for the purpose of enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of processes. It presents the roles of IT in BPR for organizations. Poor quality services lead to loss of customers, and this is particularly so with service industry. Therefore, service organizations need to offer services that delight customers. Improved business has been reported to be associated with dramatic improved service quality. Despite documented potentiality, there are mixed empirical results, findings and conclusions regarding the benefits of BPR on service quality. Therefore, this paper aimed at assessing and explaining the effects of BPR and service delivery speed on service quality. Methodology: The study used cross-sectional survey design to investigate the effect of BPR on service quality. Intensive literature review enabled to construct structural measurement model, formulate testable hypotheses and to operationalize constructs. In total ninety-five (95) service organizations participated in the study. Results: Results of the study reveal that BPR positively directly and indirectly affects service quality. In the indirect effect, it was found that BPR positively affects delivering speed which in turn affects service quality. Therefore, from these finding, it has been revealed that BPR has significant positive effect on both service quality and delivering speed. Conclusion: BPR influences both service quality and delivery speed of service organizations in of Tanzania. Based on the results, findings and conclusions from this study, it is recommended that service organizations should have concrete plans when adopting BPR techniques, which are considered key to improved service quality. In that way, service organizations will provide services that delight customers.Item The role of energy resources to production output in cement organizations in Tanzania: evidence from selected energy resources(International Journal of Economics, Business and Management Research, 2020) Mandara, Isack; Sungau, Joseph JosephIn a country, energy is an important resource to be considered for development of a Nation. The total country energy consumed determines the level of development of a Nation. Being the case, countries and organization should be provided with empirical evidence on how energy resources affect production output. However, in this area, little has been researched to explain the effect of energy resources on production output. Therefore, this paper aimed at determining the role of energy resource to production output in cement organizations. The study was conducted in Tanzania and used time series data for ten (10) years, from year 2005 to year 2014. In order to assess the effect of energy resource on production output, the study used multiple linear regression model to analyze the data. From the findings of the study, it was revealed that energy resources have positive and significant effect on production output in cement organizations. Being the case, cement organizations should consider energy resource as a key and an important resource in production of cement.
