Item The effectiveness of succession planning in organizational recruitment and replacement at PO-PSM’s,(Mzumbe University, 2014) Modamba, Filbert FrancisSuccession planning refers to a wide variety of activities that involve planning for key transitions in leadership within organizations. The issue of succession plan in Tanzania is critical because this issue not only leads to controversy between employer and employees in the organization economy, but also, if not well managed, it may result into poor performance and later strikes and lockouts and this may disturb the organization and country economy in general. The main objective of this research was, therefore, to evaluate the effectiveness of succession planning in organizational recruitment and replacement at PO-PSM’S. More specifically, the study dealt with the following objectives: to assess the current succession planning practice at PO-PSM’S; to explore and understanding the effectiveness of succession planning, at PO-PSM’S; to assess individuals’ perception on the effectiveness of succession planning practice and process, at PO-PSM’S. This study used case study design, where both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used. The study also used purposive sampling where 30 human resource executives were selected in the population of 300 employees of PO-PSM’S. Semi-structured interviews and questionnaires were used to collect data. In the results, it was observed that this organization effectively integrates leadership development and succession planning systems by fully utilizing managerial personnel in developing the organization’s mentor network, identifying and codifying high potential employees, developing high potentials via project-based learning experiences and manager-facilitated workshops, establishing a flexible and fluid succession planning process, creating organization-wide forums for exposing high potential employees to multiple stakeholders, and establishing a supportive organizational culture. This study recommends that PO-PSM’S Management should improve their business strategy, the skills development, and succession planning
