Item Relationship between students, teachers and parents towards secondary school academic performance in Mpwapwa district, Tanzania(Mzumbe University, 2019) Aaron, DorcasThe intention of the study was to assess the relationship between students, teachers and parents towards academic performance in the public secondary school, objectively; it aims to find the problems of low performance in national examination at Mpwapwa District Council which was caused by low relationship between students, teachers and parents towards academic performance. In the study the researcher involved students, teachers and parents. Data were collected from four selected secondary schools, which were Mpwapwa, Luhundwa, Mount Igovu and Wotta secondary schools. The methodologies employed in the study were interview, administering questionnaires and documentary reviews. The researcher used purposive and simple random sampling where 170 respondents were involved in the study. The major finding shows that the relationship between students, teachers and parents towards academic performance was not good .Also the findings revealed that parents and teachers provide support to students on academic performance and there are factors which affect their relationship such lack of effective communication, lack of several meeting, low understanding on education matters and Distance from home to school. It was recommended that teachers must create a positive relationship with their students in order to provide the learning opportunity as well as motivation they needed to be successful in academic and they should be the tied with parents in order to discuss problems which were facing students as well as discussing the strategies to be used in order to improve academic performance also students on their side should add more effort in studying in order to improve performance in National examination.Item Challenges of implementing OPRAS among public secondary school teachers in Arusha city council(Mzumbe University, 2016) Mhando, Emmanuel JThe focus of this study was to identify the challenges encountered by public secondary school teachers in performance management particularly OPRAS in Arusha City Council. The specific objectives of the study were; to find out how OPRAS is implemented by the public secondary school teachers in Arusha City Council; to identify some challenges faced by public secondary school teachers in OPRAS implementation, to identify the strategies used by Arusha City Council to address the challenges of implementing OPRAS in Arusha City Council. The sample size was 90 respondents. Methods used to collect data were questionnaires which were provided to the respondents to be filled and then analysed. Data were analysed by applying quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative data were analysed by using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) programme and presented by using tables and graphs. The research results have shown that inadequate resources, absence of feedback, absence of training and seminars on how to fill the OPRAS forms impeded the implementation of OPRAS Several recommendations and measures are suggested to improve OPRAS implementation. These recommendations included the following: adequate training and seminars, management support, OPRAS forms to be reviewed, revised to fit the demands of teacher’s cadre, provision of motivation and rewards and monitoring and reviewing to be given priority. When all these are put in place there will be effective implementation of OPRAS.
