The specific objectives were; examining how beneficiaries use the received cash benefits, examining the role of CCT in removing poor households out of their currently income deprivation and protecting poor households from being trapped into future income deprivation. The study was largely based on qualitative study and case study research design was applied to study in-depth the problem in single case. Stratified sampling, simple random sampling and purposive sampling procedures were used to get the sample size of 97 respondents. The primary data were collected by using in-depth interview, focus group discussion and combined questionnaires while secondary data were collected by documentary review. Data analysis was done by applying content analysis for qualitative data and statistical tools with Social Package for Social Science (SPSS) for quantitative data. The findings show that beneficiaries‟ uses and priorities in the cash received were investing in small business, children‟s human capital (education), children‟s health and buying food. Furthermore, the role of CCT on pathway to graduation from income deprivation were ensuring availability of food for poor households, engaging them in small business, improvement of houses, saving money for unforeseen events, improvement of children health and having good school attendance as well as earning income from the started businesses, having good school performance and saving income. The study concluded that the spending of the received benefits either conditionally or unconditionally has contribution on pathway towards graduation from income deprivation. The researcher recommended on TASAF to ensure desired results after school attendance and regular health visit, targeting the beneficiaries who are real poor, the transferred cash to consider the reality situation of life, stop unnecessary reduction of the transferred cash and further research to be done on other wards to find out whether CCT is needed to be paid attention to other wards or other programs are needed to be initiated from to help people from income deprivation.enIncome DeprivationCCTTASAFBuyuniThe role of conditional cash transfers on pathway towards graduation from income deprivation: A case of Buyuni wardThesis
